Daylight has been argued for many years to be economical and beneficial to health and productivity. The Daylight for the 21st Century IEA Task 31 Research Task participants compiled a short list of building examples that use daylight well.

In addition, at the time of the Task 31 research, the Building Technologies Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Labs was involved in a major R&D project with the New York Times helping improve the performance of their planned headquarters in New York City.
