The IEA "Daylight for the 21st Century" Research Task 31 participants have expended a considerable amount of time examining how their research relates to the state of the art in daylighting of buildings. This roadmap is a result of that research analysis.

In a world of changing technology, of constant improvements in physical and digital modelling capability, and of developing understanding of the social/cultural mix of user needs and desires, yet another technology focused ‘design guide’ seemed likely to be out of date when it was produced.

However, a clear need was identified for information that allows people to produce daylight designs that are more user-responsive than is achievable through application of a simple checklist or rule-of-thumb.

This ROADMAP is therefore a guide to the results of IEA Daylight for the 21st Century research task grouped into steps in the design process. The goal is to assist the application of this state of the art reseearch in design.

Under each heading in the list are a series of pointers to the issues, descriptions of relevant technology, and identification of the debate where issues are incompletely resolved.
